Safeway Expansion and Renovation

Scottsdale, Arizona

CSHQA has provided architectural and engineering design services, including design criteria for specific programs and roll-outs, for Safeway stores throughout the US, Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, since 1994.

A recent major program included design/build services and roll-out to renovate pharmacies in over 40 stores in Arizona and over 50 stores in California.  Remodeled pharmacies of approximately 536 sf include separate waiting and consultation spaces meant to feel more like an office visit than a grocery store space.  Scope of work included design-build plans and construction documents.  Construction costs ranged from $160,000 to $280,000 per location.

Our most recent Safeway projects have been pharmacy remodels. Our Denver office completed 29 in Colorado, eight in Wyoming and two in New Mexico. Our Phoenix office complete 41 in Arizona.

The Safeway Rx program consisted of the following alterations made to existing pharmacies:

  • Addition of a Consultation Room
  • Addition of a single-occupant customer rest room adjacent to the Consultation Room
  • Enlargement and enclosure of the customer waiting area to accommodate min. 6 customers (a wood frame window wall was installed to separate the waiting area from the main sales floor)
