Mark G. Gier, AIA

Architect Principal / Board of Directors / VP Architecture

When Mark Gier was very young, he and his brothers accidentally burned down a barn. His parents couldn’t have known that the boys’ punishment—helping to rebuild it—would lead to a career that has spanned over a quarter century.

Mark has worked on a huge variety of projects for CSHQA in his three decades with the firm, including military and government buildings, retail, apartments, office buildings, and more. As the VP of Architecture, he supports CSHQA’s Principals and their studios and is responsible for uniform standards and quality assurance/quality control. Mark is dedicated to finding ways to increase consistency and efficiency in everything from approach to drawings to graphics and beyond while also promoting creative solutions to best meet the needs of our clients. Mark’s top priorities are excellent onboarding processes for new staff, team training in quality standards (how to do things the CSHQA way), and having teams work consistently across studios.

Mark was a CSHQA principal before becoming a VP. One of the biggest projects of Mark’s career is an ongoing one: Tamarack Resort, a ski and snowboard destination CSHQA began working with in 2004. Tucked away in the mountains 90 miles north of Boise, it is home to an array of housing types including cottages, chalets, and more where visitors can also enjoy biking, ziplining, hiking, rafting and watersports on Lake Cascade in the warmer months.

A kayaker, Mark has had a great time navigating Idaho’s whitewater with family and friends. Now that his daughter has graduated high school and is off to college, he and his wife are looking to spend time visiting cultural sites around the globe.
