Great design is an essential part of meeting a client’s needs, Martin Hahle says, but actually listening and understanding the client’s vision plays an even more important role. As President and the leader of a studio group, Martin stays involved in his team’s projects from initial marketing to completion.
He has worked on numerous projects since joining CSHQA 22 years ago, but aviation has become his specialty. The complexity of airport terminal projects — integrating everything from concessions to baggage claim to car rental facilities and security checkpoints — has long appealed to him. He spent seven years working on the Boise Airport terminal’s renovation and expansion, creating a river theme that gives the building a sense of place. He has also been involved in the design of the Glanbia Foods Corporate Headquarters and Cheese Innovation Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, and the Treasure Valley Community College in Caldwell, Idaho.
Architecture is an interesting choice of profession given where Martin was born and raised until he was 7: The remote jungles of Guyana, South America. He spends his spare time taming the wilds of his own yard and designing and building furniture.
