Delta Dental of Idaho hired CSHQA for a two-phased design to improve its existing campus and expand the headquarters space. This included renovating the current office on Parkcenter Boulevard and building a new addition to the west side—connected by an enclosed passageway. The addition was chosen as the most feasible solution while also providing flexibility for future expansions. The firm met with Delta Dental representatives frequently throughout the project to identify and incorporate specific needs into the design.
CSHQA’s architectural team chose materials that would update and unify the spaces, but also give the buildings a timeless, modern feel; this included concrete masonry units and window frames that matched the existing building. The design allows for natural daylight, minimizing reliance on electrical lighting. The client sought a high-quality space that would be a comfortable environment in which staff could enjoy working. To meet that need, the firm’s architecture and engineering teams worked together to provide a seamless transition between the spaces, with high ceilings, top-quality finishes, and additional insulation and acoustical sealant that would reduce sound transmission throughout the space.
During the remodel of the existing space, staff were shifted around while the interior updates were worked on in the first phase; staff then moved into the completed remodel space while the new building was constructed. The pandemic presented additional challenges, such as the availability of certain building materials and the need to follow CDC protocol while working on a tight deadline. CSHQA successfully reshuffled project schedules and remained flexible to keep the project on track.
CSHQA provided interior architecture, landscape design, civil engineering, interior design, mechanical and electrical engineering, plumbing, and telecommunications design services; Structural Edge Engineering provided the structural design and Protection Consultants Incorporated provided fire sprinkler and alarm design.
