Some projects are just meant to fulfill the needs of a business or provide a service, while others—like Valor Pointe—could save lives.
The 27-unit apartment building can house 26 veterans and one live-in manager and will prioritize placement for veterans who would otherwise be homeless. It is part of a larger initiative within the City of Boise called Our Path Home, which has a goal of ending homelessness in Ada County. Funded by federal grants, the City of Boise, and private donations, the new facility will also provide health and social services for its occupants. It is the first facility of its type in the Boise area.
CSHQA provided architectural services and landscape architecture, as well as electrical, mechanical, civil, and communications engineering for the development. The tight space of the site required several variances and close coordination between CSHQA and the City of Boise, Ada County Highway District, Idaho Housing and Finance Association, and Veterans Affairs.
In addition to amenities such as private balcony/patio spaces, a community lounge, classroom, and therapeutic garden, residents have access to health care services, mental health counseling, and substance abuse treatment. Public transportation is close to the State Street location, as well as the Boise Greenbelt and several parks.
