The mountains near Denver have a diverse residency, and high swinging tourist season throughout the year. With outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, camping and everything in between, it is a natural draw for people who already respect the environment, and many of those people want to support businesses that have compatible philosophies. Whole Foods felt that their customers would love for them to have a stronger presence in the mountains.
CSHQA provided design and engineering services for the development, core and shell and tenant improvement for this new, 32,000 sf Whole Foods Market. The exterior uses board and batten siding and heavy timber supports. The décor is outdoor adventure themed, re-purposing salvaged wood for walls, sails from sail boats as shades for light fixtures, old skis used throughout, and even a gondola converted to a table to make the interior spaces fun and exciting. The outdoor space includes seating with infrared heaters, a bicycle repair station and a dog walk area.
The project achieved two Green Globes by use of daylighting, energy efficient systems throughout, durable construction materials, emissions controls, and many more.
