Downtown Boise welcomed the modernization of local favorite Hotel 43. Block 22 purchased the 72,000 SF property in 2016 and implemented an extensive renovation to maintain competitive positioning in the local hospitality market while reviving the historic building.
The design team retained the hotel’s iconic logo and signature red color while introducing a fresh palette of garnet, blue, and gold reflecting Idaho’s Gem State heritage. Three local artists were commissioned to celebrate the property’s reputation as Boise’s “original” boutique hotel.
Exterior updates include a redesigned porte-cochere, a resurfaced drive, new finishes, and a multidirectional glass entry vestibule. Through complementary materials, the renovations visually connect the hotel with tenant Chandler’s Steakhouse.
Interior transformations include relocating the registration area across the lobby behind a custom backlit wood wall, installing suspended “star-like” lighting in the four-story atrium, and converting back-office space into dynamic public areas, including a lounge and the Parallel Room library with a gas fireplace and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
All 112 guestrooms were renovated with sophisticated comfort and functionality, featuring integrated headboards, upgraded lighting controls, modernized bathrooms, and individual Wi-Fi access.
The Cornerstone Collective provided interior design and FFE procurement services, collaborating with CSHQA for architecture and MEP engineering. Despite challenges including working around existing systems and maintaining 24/7 operations, the team successfully preserved downtown Boise’s historical fabric while creating an authentic guest experience that connects visitors with Idaho’s charm. The overwhelmingly positive guest and community response confirms the project’s success.
