Grant County Regional Airport – Joint Use Terminal

John Day, Oregon

This $3.2-million, 17,752 sf, joint-use terminal building is LEED registered and was made possible through multiple funding sources, serving the US Forest Service, General Aviation and the Grant County community.  The US Forest Service portion of the facility consists of a Regional Training Academy with helibase administration, ready room, locker rooms and support spaces.  The general aviation terminal has a pilot lounge, administration office, maintenance shop, training room and support spaces.

An observation deck, shared by the Forest Service, the airport and the public, help to promote the ‘mountain peak’ design of a multi-level building with angular rooflines.  Reminiscent of a mountain lodge with an industrial flavor, the entry and framing accents are of local wood and stone.

Site work included new aircraft parking, a parking lot expansion, RV parking for US Forest Service fire operations, training grounds and biomass heating plant.
