University of Arizona Jefferson Gym and Men's Basketball Upgrades

When Sean Miller was hired to restore the University of Arizona’s Men’s Basketball Program to its elite and profitable status, he immediately initiated upgrades to the physical facilities. The goal, in Coach Miller’s words, was to create a “Player’s Program” including the finest facilities.  Coach Miller and his wife Amy put an exclamation point on the importance with a personal donation of a quarter million dollars.  Recruits were to understand that being asked to play for the University of Arizona was something very special.

CSHQA undertook three concurrent projects: modernize the locker room, upgrade the McKale Arena public corridors to tell the history of the elite program, and add 1,200 sf of fitness facilities within the existing footprint of the Jefferson Practice Gymnasium.

The work had the aspect of building a ‘ship inside of a bottle’ and had to deal with existing structural issues that could not be changed.  CSHQA worked with two different contractors on the $2.7 million donor funded projects.  The work was done in a compressed time frame to meet the team schedule.  Featured on national TV, and used to recruit players, the project is a resounding success.
