Blue Cross Corporate Headquarters
Blue Cross Corporate Headquarters resembles a rural ranch compound rather than a typical corporate structure. When planning for the multi-building complex, Blue Cross officials requested a non-pretentious, low-profile facility that would blend well with the site’s rural environment. Created to consolidate existing facilities, the 35-acre campus was planned to allow for 50 percent growth while protecting the aesthetic and water features of the initial campus. CSHQA provided long-range site master planning, architecture, engineering, interior design and landscape architecture. Construction for the first three buildings totaled 219,000 sf.
A fourth building of nearly 60,000 sf was completed 10 years later. It was a challenge to match the new building’s appearance to the existing buildings using different construction systems and methods. The new building incorporated more current and appropriate construction methods while connecting visually and functionally to the original structures.
Parking is located near the office buildings, but the pedestrian paths, landscape islands, and vehicular traffic patterns are protected. A separate service building provides mechanical and electrical systems.
