The Springs II is located adjacent to The Springs I which was completed in 2011. It provides an additional 36 affordable housing units in three buildings with studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Although there are no plans to pursue LEED certification the project is very energy efficient and follows many sustainable design ideals.
Phase I site amenities include open space, community building and a playground; Phase II will include a sheltered picnic area and basketball court. The access road and pedestrian path connecting both phases will be extended to reach a secondary county road, providing safe access to amenities for residents and requiring extensive coordination with county and city entities.
Sustainable Design Notes
- The all electric buildings are highly energy efficient thanks to system selection and insulation and building envelop designs that exceed energy code
- Low water fixtures and landscape reduce water use
- Energy efficient lighting and appliances reduce costs for residents
- Durable exterior materials continue the palate found in Phase I
