Lily Van Buskirk and her two older sisters were frequently tasked with helping their parents on various house remodel projects during the summer months. These family projects helped her learn how things went together early and the importance of hard work. “What I enjoyed most about our remodel projects was that they were tangible. I could see the design and labor come to fruition, which I found exciting.” Lily has always enjoyed design and problem-solving and knew she wanted to pursue architecture and design early on.
Now a Senior Architect III at CSHQA, she utilizes strong space planning skills, focusing primarily on corporate interiors. She enjoys seeing the outcome while looking back through the progression of a project and ruminating on lessons learned, both good and bad. She thrives on the design process and happy and grateful clients/end users who love their new spaces.
One of Lily’s favorite projects before joining CSHQA was a new 200K Intermediate School in DeForest, Wisconsin. The project turned out beautifully, and the team was great to work with. The building was designed using sustainable building practices and incorporating geothermal resources for heating and cooling. The school became an inspiring place for learning and a tool for educating students about sustainable building practices.
Outside work, Lily is a big movie buff. She enjoys watching the art form of movie making and storytelling, which aligns with architecture and design. There was even a moment when she thought of going into set design and art direction for film but decided to stick with architecture to “set the stage” for inhabitants and end users.
