Saint Alphonsus – Children’s Clinic at Mulvaney Medical Office Building

Boise, Idaho

An over-arching goal for the tenant improvements at Mulvaney Medical Office Building, part of the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, is to provide a patient-centered medical home for clients.  The totally integrated practice provides a continuum of care for patient health needs, particularly with the co-location of the Women’s Clinic and Children’s Clinic in the same building.

In contrast to the first-floor Women’s Clinic, the second-floor, 10,900 sf Children’s clinic is designed around a model of shared consulting rooms and open space offices, rather than private offices and dedicated exam rooms.  This was the choice of the staff after returning from a visit to a similar Trinity Health medical facility in Cleveland.  Design was near 60% when the change was requested and CSHQA was excited to reimagine and redesign the space to accommodate the new ideas.

Spaces include 23 exam rooms, a triage room, care team spaces near all exam rooms, vaccine storage, a lactation education room, and support spaces including waiting, reception, staff lounge, offices, and storage spaces.

In addition to integrating elements of design associated with Healing Environments, a local artist was commissioned to create unique artwork that accentuates bold colors used in this playful space.  The environment is meant to attract a range of children from toddlers to tweens, creating the perfect space to put children and their parents at ease.
